Root Canal Treatment in Lower Plenty

Woman in dental chairDo you have a broken, abscessed or severely decayed tooth? Dr Eva Tossoun (Dentist) may recommend a root canal. Endodontic therapy at St George’s Dental can help preserve badly-damaged and traumatised teeth, reducing your risk of tooth loss.

What is a Root Canal?

Root canal therapy is a treatment where we remove the infected or traumatised nerve inside of your tooth. From there, we clean out the canal and fill it to seal off the open chamber. After your root canal, we recommend covering the tooth with a protective, ceramic crown.

Preserving your tooth with a root canal helps maintain ideal tooth spacing and smile alignment. If the tooth is extracted instead, you will need a dental implant or fixed bridge in that space.

Why Do I Need a Root Canal?

Any time the nerve of a tooth is damaged or infected, it causes gradual tooth death and eventual loss. Nerve damage can be caused by deep cavities, cracked teeth or traumatic injuries like athletic accidents. By performing a root canal, we’re able to preserve your natural tooth for as long as possible.

Keeping You Comfortable

Endodontic treatment is the best option available if you have a significantly damaged tooth. Not surprising, however, is that most people feel nervous about the root canal process. Our top priority is to make sure you are completely pain free before and during all endodontic treatments. The best way to do this is to place you on antibiotics leading up to the appointment, which reduces inflammation so that the numbing medication can work effectively. If for any reason you feel anything—even mild sensitivity—we will stop the procedure until you are completely comfortable.
